Diagnostics Pricing & Charges – Autodiag Rugby

We believe pricing should be clear and realistic. Every vehicle and fault is different, so rather than guessing, we base our charges on the time and type of work required.

Our aim is simple: carry out work carefully, explain everything clearly, and avoid unnecessary costs.

Diagnostics & investigation

Diagnostics (up to 1 hour) £95 + Vat

Used for warning lights, electrical issues and fault code investigation.
Includes initial testing, system scans and assessment.

Extended diagnostics (up to 2 hours) £180 + Vat

Used for more complex or intermittent faults requiring deeper investigation.

Mechanical investigation £95 + Vat

Used where physical testing, inspection or partial strip-down is needed to confirm the cause of a problem.

If further time is required, we will always discuss this with you beforehand.

Servicing & repairs Per Hour £95 + Vat

Service and repair costs vary depending on:

  • parts required
  • labour time
  • vehicle type and access
  • whether additional testing is needed

Where possible, we provide an estimate before work begins.
If anything changes, we contact you first so you can decide how to proceed.

MOT testing

Our MOT pricing is set fairly and always within the DVSA maximum test fee.
If repairs are required following a failure, we will explain the options and retest arrangements clearly.

More details can be found on our MOT page.

Dealer access & manufacturer software charges

Some modern repairs and diagnostic procedures require temporary access to secure manufacturer systems. These systems are used for:

  • programming and coding new parts
  • software updates
  • online diagnostic sessions
  • key, immobiliser and security-related functions

Main dealers pay large annual subscriptions to access these systems continuously. As an independent specialist, we access them on a pay-per-use basis.

Because of this, there may occasionally be an additional manufacturer access fee.
We only apply this charge when it is genuinely required — and we will always explain it in advance.

This allows us to carry out work requiring manufacturer-level systems without you paying main-dealer labour rates.

What you’re paying for

Our charges reflect:

  • time spent testing rather than guessing
  • professional diagnostic equipment and data access
  • experience and methodical working
  • clear communication throughout

Good diagnostics and properly planned repairs usually cost less than repeated trial-and-error part replacement.

Important note

We never carry out chargeable work without discussing it first.
If at any stage you’d like to pause, reconsider or get more information, just ask — you stay in control.
