Not every fault is electrical — and not every problem will show a warning light. Many issues originate from the mechanical systems themselves: engines, timing, cooling, fuel, exhausts, clutches and drivetrains.
Our mechanical investigation service is designed to identify the real cause of a problem before parts are replaced.
We work methodically, using testing and evidence — not guesswork.
When mechanical investigation is needed
Common examples include:
- knocking, rattling or unusual noises
- loss of power or poor performance
- misfires, rough running or vibration
- overheating or coolant loss
- oil leaks, smoke or excessive consumption
- clutch, gearbox or drivetrain problems
- repeated faults after previous repairs
Sometimes a fault begins mechanically and then triggers electrical fault codes. Where this happens, we may combine mechanical investigation with our
Diagnostics process.
How we diagnose mechanical faults
Our process may include:
- visual and safety inspection
- road testing where appropriate
- compression and pressure testing
- cooling and fuel system checks
- noise and vibration assessment
- endoscope inspections (where accessible)
- fluid condition checks
- targeted strip-down where necessary
Where possible, we confirm faults with clear evidence before recommending repairs.
Why investigation matters
Replacing parts “just in case” can quickly become expensive and may still leave the problem unresolved.
Thorough investigation helps to:
- avoid unnecessary repairs
- prevent repeat failures
- protect major components
- plan repairs properly
Once a clear diagnosis has been made, any repair work can then be completed through our
Servicing & Repairs service.
What to expect
At the end of the investigation we explain:
- what we found
- what we can confirm
- whether further testing is sensible
- repair options and likely costs
You remain in control of how to proceed.
If you’d like to understand typical diagnostic costs, see our
Diagnostics Pricing page.
Important note
Mechanical investigation can require additional labour, especially where access is restricted or parts must be removed to confirm a fault. We will always discuss and agree any extra time before continuing.
Investigation reflects the condition of the vehicle at the time of testing. We do not promise outcomes — our focus is on careful, transparent work so you have clear information before authorising repairs.
If something doesn’t sound or feel right with your vehicle, please
